SeaWorld Orlando revealed the concept that was to become Manta to a gathering of travel industry representatives and community leaders on April 2, 2008, although it had been in the planning stages for years. The well-received attraction officially opened to the public on May 22, 2009. Designed by Swiss firm Bolliger & Mabillard, Manta restrains riders in the prone position and features four inversions. The attraction allows guests to encounter numerous species of ray before boarding a manta ray-shaped train that takes them on a 3,359-foot-long (1,024 m) roller coaster ride above the park, reaching top speeds of 56 miles per hour (90 km/h). Journey to AtlantisĪ one-of-a-kind “watercoaster,” Journey to Atlantis akes you on a water flume adventure aboard an eight-passenger boat that features a re-creation of the mythical city of Atlantis and a 60-foot-drop into a splash pool (prepare to get soaked!). Mako is the third major roller coaster at SeaWorld Orlando, and a very different beast from its two predecessors, Kraken and Manta. its 200 foot tall profile, and it uses every bit of that height to move its train at speeds exceeding 70 miles an hour. KrakenĪn exhilarating roller coaster, Kraken speeds up to 65 miles per hour and reaches a height of 151 as it loops its way high over Serpent’s Lagoon. The park’s first roller coaster, Kraken is a coral teal, floorless beast that takes riders through a trough of inversions. Swooping over sea and sky, Manta inspires riders with incredible underwater animal habitats, then soars them face-down, in a horizontal position, aboard a manta-inspired flying coaster. As is the case of most of SeaWorld’s attractions, Manta is an exhibit as well, showcasing sting rays and other exotic animal life.
